Conservation. Protection from UV and humidity.

Handle humidity with GP Systems.

Humidity left to its own devices can be a disaster to conservation projects or maintenance of a structure or environment. Fortunately GP Systems offers a range of UV blocking insulative films that will significantly reduce the likelihood of damages due to humidity.

Humidity causes warping cracking and moldsUV window films help prevent wood and paper from warping, cracking and rotting

Warping of organic objects is caused largely by variation in relative humidity. Relative humidity is the percentage of moisture in the air relative to the airs maximum holding capacity at that temperature. This affects organic materials such as wood because these objects are hygroscopic. They lose or gain moisture to keep in equilibrium with the moistness of their environment. This causes them to expand or contact upon loosing or gaining moisture potentially changing their shape i.e. warping them. Repetitive changes in size or changes in composite objects (objects comprised of more than one material) can cause stress which makes the material crack. Relative humidity is inversely affected by temperature i.e. when temperature goes up relative humidity goes down and vice versa. Thus maintaining a consistent temperature can maintain a consistent relative humidity protecting objects from warping and cracking. This can be achieved through the use of GP Systems insulative window film.

Molds and rot develop in environments which are damp, usually above 65% relative humidity. Molds can stain materials and be a health risk whilst rot can threaten the structural integrity of the item in question. GP insulative films can be used in conjunction with other products to keep relative humidity lower than 65% to avoid the risk of mold and rot.

How UV Conservation Film helps

Excessive warping and therefore cracking can be prevented by maintaining a consistent relative humidity (no more than 5% variance in a month) which can be achieved via maintaining a consistent temperature. GP Systems insulative films are a great aid in achieving this by limiting heat loss and gain through a window. 90% of radiated heat (Infra-red light) is stopped by the film along with over 99% of Ultraviolet films meaning that the items in the room are protected from the primary cause of fading too.

Preventing mould and rot requires that relative humidity is kept below 65%. GP systems insulative window films can help prevent relative humidity going that high by maintaining a suitable temperature.
